Peonies and A Studio Tour

This week, we have tried to follow a stricter schedule. We had tried to avoid this but it came to my attention that not following schedule has led to feeling unaccomplished by the end of the day. This then led to an uneasy sad feeling when bedtime came around.

So far, so good. Our schedule and the goals we have set are helping immensely. We are feeling empowered and have much more energy. We are figuring this thing out together, day by day, week by week and dare I say, month by month. I am proud of my family. I am so grateful to be stuck with them.

I haven’t felt much like painting faces this week so I have turned to my beloved peonies to lift my spirits. If you would like more info on these paintings, you can contact me directly HERE.

I had many requests for a studio tour when I posted my first reaching out video. Your wish is my command. I hope you enjoy my messy studio and I have tidied up since, so thanks for the motivation!

Have a great weekend you guys,

Maria

“That is one good thing about this world...there are always sure to be more springs.”

― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea

I hope that you are all doing well. It is a crazy time. I will be honest, I approached this whole thing with the most positive and upbeat energy I could muster but the last few weeks have been hard and my energy has wained. I felt better today and I am sure it was because of the beautiful weather. Spring is finally starting to emerge and I can’t tell you how much that has lifted my mood. I have opened my Etsy shop again. I feel I need to feel a little more NORMAL, I need to keep painting and I need to keep doing my job. SO I opened up again. I may change my mind, but today it is open.

I’ve also been working on editing my PYHAS 2020. I’m excited about this class. I love Georgia O’Keeffe and using her beautiful paintings and her own image to inspire me to create this lesson has been a real joy. If you’d like to take part in any of my online classes, GO HERE. Speaking of which, I have been doing a little demo of painting on black paper on my YOU TUBE channel, they aren’t the quality of the online lessons I do for PYHAS or Let’s Face It, as I am doing them all on my iPhone and the last few, I haven’t even done a voice over but I just wanted to continue to share with you. It is has been hard to make myself go out to the studio in the last little while but having you guys out there, cheering me on and needing me is a huge motivation. SO, thanks for that.

OK, so here are the next few videos, and again, not great quality and not the professional set up that I use for the classes I sell.

Video series of “Painting On Black Paper” continued…

Reaching Out- Second Week of Social Distancing- March 23-27

Hello everyone,

How has your week been? I am sure it has been full of ups and downs; moments of clarity and moments of absolute confusion. I know it has been for me. I am trying to stay upbeat but it is such a crazy, uncertain time and it is hard to remain positive. Anyway, it is nice to reach out to you guys again this week. Posting this ongoing painting is a way to stay in touch with you guys and I am enjoying all of your feedback. It really helps me feel a connection to the world I have worked so hard to create. It is hard not to worry but I am going to keep putting beauty in this world, humans will always need beauty in their lives.

So, this is me, talking myself off the ledge. I am not feeling 100% well, and I know you can get paranoid at this time. Every sniffle, every cough or sore joint makes you wonder if you have IT. Really, how can we feel 100% well? We are all stressed; we are all worried about the future. Now more than ever, we have to try to remain present as much as possible. None of us can know what the future holds (we never really could but it was nice to feel like we had some control). The world might look completely different from what we are used to by the end of all of this. We just can’t know. We have to have faith. We have to have hope. We also need distractions…

…So here are some more videos of me painting to do just that.

Love you guys,

Keep putting beauty in the world!

Maria

Social distancing this week in Edmonton

Took the girls and the doggies out for an walk in the country and a picnic in the car. We even brought a bucket (no gas station bathrooms TY). Rest assured, no one used it HA HA! All and all, a well needed outing for everyone and we didn't come near a soul.

PYHAS2020

I finally finished filming my lesson for this one. This lesson is about taking inspiration from another artist’s work and making it your own. I chose Georgia O’Keeffe. If you would like to take part in this lesson go HERE or check out all of my online lessons HERE

I am still listing art in my Etsy shop and you are more than welcome to purchase something, I just can’t mail anything right now as I am no longer able to get to the POST OFFICE. I have lots of paintings available that I had to take back from Highlevel Diner after their closure so go and have a gander. The link is HERE. I am offering 20% off on all purchases, just use the coupon THANKS20. Also, just a reminder, I do offer layaway for anyone that would like to take a little longer to purchase a painting. I’m trying to keep the cash flowing but I know that everyone else is too.

Reaching Out- First Week of Social Distancing- March 14-21, 2020

Hello everyone,

It has been a difficult week. Such a crazy time to be alive. I decided to do some videos to reach out to those of you that are stuck a home in isolation. It is something I have been thinking about doing for a while now but I wasn’t really sure how. So, I figure, why not figure it out together?

If you have any questions about art, my art or techniques, feel free to ask me. I will try to answer them in some short demo type videos. Hopefully you will find them interesting and maybe even inspiring.

I’ve been working on my PYHAS 2020 class as well but I have to be honest, I am finding it hard to concentrate. I am loving my subject though, I am using Georgia O’Keeffe as inspiration. I know you guys are going to love painting this one with me. If you would like to take part in this class, follow the link HERE.

Another thing I have decided to start doing is a weekly newsletter. Make sure you subscribe to my website.

So thats all, I’ll be back after another week of keeping my distance. Be safe guys, and make sure you play your part in making everyone else safe. Keep your distance and make some art!

Best,

Maria

“You’ll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart.”

George Michael

This body of work is about having the courage to believe in ourselves, to love oneself and listen to our own ‘heart’ when it comes to deciding what the things want in our  life. We are not all the same. We are all so dramatically different in so many ways. This is an amazing thing. Just as amazing, however, is that we are all so similar in so many ways.  This is to be human. To embrace our differences, our uniqueness and to be comforted by the common bonds we share.

I have always been a dream cultivator. I have always tried to  encourage my girls to dream big, to go for everything they want, to be bold, to have courage. To be honest, I think I thought if I told them this stuff enough as they were growing up, they wouldn’t have to go through the same stuff I went through. They would figure everything out so much sooner than me. They wouldn’t doubt themselves, hate themselves, fear life, fear the future, regret the past… overthink themselves into oblivion. That is what I thought. I could spare them all that stuff and they could just jump to being like me when I turned 40 and stopped caring about all the stuff so much. They could just start there. I had done all that hard work FOR them. I could spare them those hardships.

 If only.

My girls are all the things I tried so desperately to save them from. They are full of doubt, question their worth, fear the future and occasionally hate  themselves … just like I had done. They don’t see how amazing and how talented they are. They don’t see how other people see them.

I am realizing  this is to be human too. This is all of us. Even the ones that put on brave faces and airs of being better than everyone, having confidence by the buckets, seemingly living that perfect life. Even them. They are human and to be human is to have self doubts, second guesses and moments of self hatred.  I can’t stop them from going through these things and it pains me, like no other pain, to witness their suffering and struggles but I can be there for them. I can listen to their woes. I can cheer them on. I can distract them momentarily (this still works occasionally with teens NOT just toddlers). I can just be there. Always.

Another thing  I can do is look after myself. I can show them by example how to self love, have confidence, try new things, face my fears  and succeed or even, fail. And ultimately I can paint my way through this time, like I always do. Taking that pain in my world and making it into beautiful reminders for all of us to love ourselves a little more, be tender and kind to ourselves more often. We  also have to remember that everyone feels this way sometime or another so we have to extend that kindness to others around us, even the smallest gesture, smile or thumbs up can change soemone’s day.

These paintings, all my paintings really, are love letters to my daughters and ultimately to myself. We all need these reminders and I paint to send this message to my girls and to remind myself of these things.
