COURSE OVERVIEW:

These two lessons explore the beauty that surrounds you, combined with your own imagination, to heighten a simple floral, cat and butterfly painting into two detailed botanical fantasy paintings.

Learn how to create beautiful decorative art that everybody loves! Take your art to the next level!

You will learn about:

-creating composition from combined reference photos.

– using decorative papers and collage to inspire the direction of your piece.

– to look at a painting as a whole to create a unified piece, in both composition and palette.

– to use various mediums and mark making techniques to give your painting more interest, depth and texture.

– to trust in your own imagination rather than always relying on reality based references.

Main lesson: “Ginger Flowers” (1 hour 37 minutes)

In the main lesson, Maria will share her process with you in creating a detailed painting of a fantastical garden featuring her lovely ginger cat. Loosely using a reference photo of flowers and one of a cat, you will combine the two, creating a gorgeous feline fantasy garden painting.

* This main lesson is accompanied by detailed step by step pdf instructions.

Mini Lesson: Butterflies and Flowers (55 minutes)

In this mini lesson on an art board, you will use paper collage, butterfly cut-outs and a floral reference to explore the beauty of the real world and to learn to trust yourself as the creator of your own painted world in order to create the perfect garden fantasy snapshot.

I am so excited that The Handmade Holiday Auction is starting tomorrow November 10th. Every year, Stephanie Gagos curates an absolute stunning collection. There are so many wonderful artists participating again this year. I just know you are going to be blown away.

My actual day is a November 15, so mark your calendar! I will have 15 original pieces and 10 OOAK reproductions. I am especially excited about the NEW SIZES I am offering in the OOAK reproductions! Where as once I could only go to a 12” square, now I am offering a 16” square and up to 16” x20” on other pieces. These new sizes are truly breathtaking! YAY!

I will be sharing my day with the fabulous Micki Wilde, if you aren’t familiar with her art, you are in for a real treat!

As of late, it has been hard for me to  focus on my art; my girls have needed me, and they are always my first priority. Growing up is hard, and it never really gets easier.  I’m realizing this more and more. 

This year my work has been little different, a little moody, a little stormy but still, I think, you will see; hope prevails.  It has been that kind of year, a struggle to stay hopeful and positive but I remain stubborn, firmly holding those rose coloured glasses in front of my eye balls.

 As I stated about my previous collection, my biggest hope for you, viewer, and for my girls,  is that my art will lift you up, take your despair and make it a little less, even if just for a second. It is hard to figure out your direction in the world. Where you fit. Even when you aren't worried about masking up or vaccinating. Figuring out life’s path is all consuming but we have to have faith.

Painting My Life Beautiful

It has been a strange year and I have struggled to stay positive and keep creating. I really do try to take my worries and hardships and make them into something beautiful but I found that difficult this year. Watching so many people, loved ones and strangers, suffer, was hard to overcome. 

The idea of my own personal freedom and the freedom of everyone worldwide had been circling my head for a while so I decided to play with this vision of being trapped or caged. I took that idea and tried to make something beautiful from it. I try to put beauty back into the world every chance I get. I feel this is my superpower. It makes me feel lighter and makes me feel like I have some control over what is happening to me. It is my aspiration that I can help others by giving them hope and inspiration from seeing/feeling something beautiful and joyful in my art.

This too shall pass, we can get through this together.

Holiday Auction 2020

Hello lovelies!

I hope you are all doing well. I have enjoyed seeing all of your paintings from the Lifebook taster sessions. You have blown me away and I appreciate your kind words regarding my lesson. I often feel uncertain about teaching or doing online work shops, fearful that I’m not worthy of the important title of ‘teacher’. I am so grateful to know that I have inspired you, there can be no greater compliment or purpose in life.

So what’s up next?

In November, I will be taking part in the Handmade Holiday Auction. I have been part of this auction this last few years and I am excited to be able to get to do it again this year. 2020 has been hard for everyone and I have found it hard to get my butt in the studio to paint on a regular basis.
